The Romanian College of Physicians has followed up on the complaint filed by The Foundation for the Defense of Citizens Against State Abuses (FACIAS) and launched a disciplinary investigation into the case of the 7-week-old girl who died after allegedly receiving inappropriate treatment based on a misdiagnosis by the Arad County Hospital.

A chain of medical errors led to the tragic death of a 7-week-old girl. The child's parents accuse her of receiving inappropriate treatment based on an initial misdiagnosis of rotavirus. Thorough medical investigations were only carried out after her condition worsened and serious neurological problems were discovered, leading to her death. There are also suspicions of a lack of communication between medical professionals and the family, as well as irregularities in following medical protocols.

All these issues have been brought to the attention of the Romanian College of Physicians by FACIAS, with the request to order an urgent investigation and firm measures against the guilty persons.

FACIAS will follow the progress of the investigation to hold those responsible to account.

According to the FACIAS analysis, between 2023-2024, the Malpractice Commissions registered 400 complaints nationwide, but in only 15 cases (about 5%) were the allegations of malpractice confirmed, all of which were subsequently challenged in court.

FACIAS, together with patients' associations in Romania, calls on the Ministry of Health to urgently initiate a project to amend the procedure for resolving malpractice complaints.
