The reform of state-owned companies goes into straight line today, September 11, at the Palace of Parliament. Metrorex, CFR Călători, CFR Marfă, UNIFARM, Romaero, and Romarm sent their representatives to the debate on the reform of state-owned companies, organized by The Foundation For The Defense Of Citizens Against State Abuses, under the title "Reform of State-Owned Companies: From Waste to Performance"..
Representatives of institutions that manage huge amounts of public money, but which for years have been facing huge losses and accusations of inefficient management, were invited to discussions with government officials, university teachers, experts from the private sector, union leaders, and representatives of civil society in an attempt to find concrete solutions to stop the waste.
The stakes of the debate are crucial: what legislative changes can transform these companies from financial black holes into high-performing players in the economy? What is the real role of the state—passive shareholder or guardian of the public interest? And, above all, how can the performance of managers who, while reporting huge losses, continue to receive considerable salaries and bonuses, be assessed objectively and consistently?
FACIAS warns that hundreds of state-owned companies are deepening their losses year after year, while their bosses enjoy privileges at the expense of public money. The debate in Parliament could mark the beginning of a reform that would put an end to waste and restore taxpayers' confidence in the way state resources are managed.
