The Foundation For The Defense Of Citizens Against State Abuses (FACIAS) calls on the Ministry of Health to publicly present solutions to avoid a new crisis in immunoglobulin treatment.
In 2017, due to serious administrative errors, which have - unfortunately - remained uncorrected to date, Romania faced a major immunoglobulin crisis. Following repeated appeals from patients, doctors and civil society, the Ministry of Health leadership stepped in and solved this crisis.
However, the solutions found by the Ministry are temporary. Patients whose lives depend on immunoglobulin treatment fear that once the suspension of the claw-back fee expires (this fee has been temporarily suspended until 31 December 2019), problems with access to this essential medicine will re-emerge.
In 2017, following calls from FACIAS and other associations, hospitals were supplied with immunoglobulin. For serious irregularities in the public health system, including the catastrophic situation of the treatment of primary immunodeficiencies, FACIAS called in 2017 for the resignation of the former Minister of Health.
FACIAS believes that preventing crises such as the immunoglobulin crisis, in which several patients with primary immunodeficiencies have lost their lives, must become a national priority.
