The Minister for European Investment and Projects, Marcel Bolos, admitted live on Antena 3 that FACIAS's request to declassify the information and annexes of Romania's National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) is perfectly legitimate.
The Minister said that it is normal to publish Romania's long-term investment plans but that only the Government could decide to declassify these documents. "If such a decision is taken at Government level, we will honour it, it does not depend on the ministry. We don't have much to hide in the NRRP. It is a public document, after all it is Romania's budget and investments that are made in the interest of Romania. We have to be very open, as we are talking about the next generations and the modernisation of Romania," said Bolos.
As a result of this public statement from the minister managing the NRRP, it is expected that the request for the declassification of these documents will be made urgently. FACIAS states that it will follow up and inform the public about this situation and will take legal action if the Minister's words do not turn into action soon.
What FACIAS's request consisted of:
FACIAS has found that the secrecy of this information concerning Romania's development is not only immoral with regard to the public's right to be informed about how the government is complying with this very important plan for the country, but also unlawful as secrecy of this type of content is not possible under the laws in force. FACIAS believes that civil society cannot stand idly by when, following an arbitrary decision by a former minister, Cristian Ghinea, the public has been denied access to unclassified information.
