The Foundation For The Defense Of Citizens Against State Abuses (FACIAS) has called on the Ministry of Health to order an investigation at the County Emergency Hospital in Targu Jiu into the way the case of Melisa Dănășel, only a few months old, was handled.
On 18 March 2017, information and testimonies appeared in the public space regarding the way a little girl of only a few months old, Melisa Dănășel, who had serious health problems, was treated at the Târgu-Jiu County Hospital.
The parents complained that emergency procedures were not followed and on-call doctors mishandled their daughter's case. In addition, the child's parents complained that the lack of facilities for emergency intervention was likely to endanger their daughter's life.
FACIAS has called on the Minister of Health to order an investigation into this case to prevent similar situations from arising and to hold those responsible for the way in which the case was handled accountable, given that the failure to follow emergency procedures and the lack of a professional approach put the child's life at risk.
FACIAS believes that the lack of responsibility and professionalism in this case violated both the rights of patients, regulated by Law 46/2003 on the rights of patients, the right to health and the right to life - guaranteed by the Romanian Constitution, and the Rights of the Child regulated by the United Nations General Convention adopted by Romania through Law 18/1990 for the ratification of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
The Foundation For The Defense Of Citizens Against State Abuses has requested that the outcome of this investigation and the measures to be taken by the Control Corps of the Ministry of Health be made public.
