The Foundation for the Defense of the Citizen Against State Abuses (FACIAS) has requested, this year, on January 9, to the court to find the existence of a damage of millions of euros, money spent from the state budget by the National Company for the Administration of Road Infrastructure (CNAIR) for pre-feasibility and feasibility studies of construction works that were never carried out.

According to the action brought by FACIAS, CNAIR is unable to administer and manage the preparation and implementation of projects effectively, which is causing enormous damage to the State.

In its action, FACIAS alleged that CNAIR was administratively unable to effectively manage the preparation and implementation of pre-feasibility and feasibility projects, which resulted in huge amounts of public money being wasted.

Instead of spending the money on roads and motorways, CNAIR has spent €25 million on meaningless paperwork!

FACIAS demonstrated in its court filing that the now-popular phrase "we have highways... on paper" has a harsh reality behind it: dozens of projects have been ordered and paid for by the state company, but some of them have never been implemented, and others have simply proved to be useless.

The FACIAS initiative targets the public's unseen side of the scandalous way in which an authority funded by Romanians' money pretends to work. A simple calculation, based on the answer FACIAS received from CNAIR itself, shows that this company has paid a total of 25 million euros for feasibility studies and that the related works are currently unfinished.

We hope that our legal action will activate institutions such as the Court of Auditors, which is responsible for controlling the management and efficiency of the spending of public money, because these sums must be recovered from those responsible.
