On Tuesday 26 April, the Senate tacitly adopted a legislative proposal that would make it easier for local administrative units (e.g. town halls) to acquire land in non-urban areas. The aim of the draft, according to the initiators, is to simplify the procedure for purchasing land for the purpose of local community development.
This simplification of the purchase procedure could prove beneficial if the intentions of elected representatives are for the welfare of citizens. If, however, they are thinking of their own interests, then the project may open the door to new possibilities for 'clever' arrangements.
Next up is the debate in the Chamber of Deputies, which is the decision-making chamber.
