The Foundation for the Defense of Citizens Against State Abuses (FACIAS) has posed a question to the two candidates for President of Romania, Călin Georgescu and Elena Lasconi, in the wake of the tragic demise of Andrei, a 16-year-old boy who was hospitalised at the County Emergency Hospital in Targu Jiu. He succumbed to peritonitis while awaiting the arrival of an ambulance to transport him to Craiova.

This tragedy, which could have been averted, represents a profound and enduring wound for Romanian society, which has demonstrably failed to safeguard a child's most fundamental right: the right to life. In this context, FACIAS posed the following question to the candidates, Elena Lasconi and Călin Georgescu:

"As President of Romania, how would you respond to such a situation, and what measures would you implement to prevent a recurrence of such tragedies?"

It is the responsibility of the President of Romania to ensure respect for the Constitution, which guarantees the right to life and to physical and mental integrity. In addition to the moral and civic duties that accompany the role, the President is also obliged to respond firmly and effectively to such tragedies.
