The Foundation for the Defence of Citizens Against State Abuses announces that its court action against the National House of Public Pensions, requesting that the state be obliged to apply the legal indexation of pensions, is officially endorsed by the "OMENIA" National Federation of Mutual Aid Houses of Pensioners in Romania.
With more than 1.125 million members and 310.000 supporters, the "OMENIA" National Federation, the largest and most powerful seniors' organization in the country, thus joins the legal action initiated by FACIAS in March 2026.
Through this common front in the court of law, FACIAS and the "OMENIA" National Federation draw attention to the fact that pension is an inalienable and constitutional right, which cannot be treated as a simple benefit granted or suspended depending on the budgetary situation or current political decisions.
FACIAS reminds that, in Romania, over 924.000 seniors are forced to survive exclusively on the social allowance for pensioners, the amount of which is blocked at 1,281 lei. This amount translates into a budget of only 42 lei per day, money from which an elderly person must cover their food, vital medical treatments and pay for utilities. For this extremely vulnerable category, the failure to apply the pension indexation in the last two years has meant a direct reduction in their capacity to cover their strictly necessary expenses.
Moreover, the financial impact caused by circumventing the provisions of Law no. 360/2023 on the public pension system is significant at all income levels of Romanian pensioners. Calculations show that a pensioner receiving only the minimum allowance loses approximately 1,500 lei per year due to this blockage. The situation is equally serious for average incomes: in the case of a pension of 3,000 lei, the loss exceeds 4,300 lei annually, while for higher pensions, the cumulative financial damage can exceed 11,000 lei per year.
The risk for seniors is amplified by the current context of political instability, generated by the fall of the Government in early May, which calls into question the 13% pension indexation scheduled for 2027. If this increase is suspended again, pensioners could lose money for the third consecutive year.
In order to stop these abuses against the 4.7 million pensioners, FACIAS has filed a lawsuit against the National Pension House. Although the regulatory framework establishes that the value of the pension reference point must be updated annually with the inflation rate, to which is added 50% of the real increase in the average gross salary, this indicator has been artificially maintained at the value of 81 lei. Due to this capping, pensioners have already lost the indexations for the years 2025 and 2026, and the prospect of compliance with the law for the year 2027 remains deeply uncertain.
FACIAS and the National Federation "OMENIA" will continue the court proceedings until the National House of Public Pensions implements pension indexation and recovers the amounts that Romanian pensioners were deprived of.
