The Foundation for the Defense of the Citizen Against State Abuses (FACIAS) wanted to know how it was possible for one of the most important roads in Romania, DN1, to collapse, when there was a contract and invoices already paid for works on this road.
FACIAS asked the National Road Infrastructure Management Company (CNAIR) for a copy of the works contract for the national road DN1 - Ploiesti-Brașov, as the road embankment had collapsed over a length of 60 metres. Following the request, CNAIR replied and explained that the subsidence was due to erosion of the minor bed of the Prahova River and that it had requested emergency repairs, recalibration of the minor bed of the Prahova River, construction of embankment fenders and repair of the affected portion of the road.
FACIAS has come back and asked CNAIR to explain whether the feasibility study for the works contract included the risk of erosion of the minor bed of the Prahova river and insisted that the state institution provide the contract document paid for with public money.
FACIAS finds it outrageous that, especially in the case of such an important road, such catastrophic situations arise, when, after the incident, CNAIR notes that preventive solutions were in place. FACIAS will continue to press for the truth in this case in order to get the authorities to effectively prevent any future incidents.
