Over 8,000,000 vaccine shots have already been paid for. They will all be destroyed because there is no other option.
"There is no longer any interest, and I don't just mean the population's interest; I mean anyone's interest, either to buy them or to receive them for free. As a result, no one wants to get them, even if they are free. We must destroy them when they reach the end of their useful life "Alexandru Rafila, Minister of Health, declared on Wednesday.
The Ministry of Health will have to pay for the destruction operation, which will incur additional costs.
It validates what FACIAS has been stating for months: vaccination purchases were made on inaccurate estimations or, worse, to serve other interests.
As a result, Romania will have to endure not only the costs of purchasing millions of useless doses, but also the expenditures of destroying the expired dosages. Practically, it's a bad deal for both Romanians and the country.
The Foundation for the Defense of Citizens Against State Abuse has urged for contract renegotiation and an end to superfluous vaccination purchases as early as May 2022. The authorities did not take any action in this regard, so FACIAS filed a lawsuit against the Ministry of Health to force the institution to stop the irresponsible procurement of anti-Covid vaccines. Furthermore, he demanded that individuals responsible for public procurements waste of hundreds of millions of euros on vaccines that were well in excess of the real need be held accountable.
Furthermore, official communications between FACIAS and the Ministry of Health proved problematic, in the sense that the institution provided FALSE information in response to some of the questions we posed, prompting us to refer the National Anticorruption Directorate, against officials from The Ministry of Health who signed an official address denying the existence of contracts concluded with suppliers of COVID-19 vaccines.
The address signatories attested to fictitious circumstances regarding the non-existence of these contracts, as a result of the action of including information about these contracts in the classified/confidential category, in order to conceal the violation of the law by the officials who concluded the respective contracts detrimental to the Romanian state.
