The Foundation For The Defense Of Citizens Against State Abuses (FACIAS) draws attention to the particularly serious political implications of the establishment of the representation of Szeklerland in Brussels and to the social tensions that this may cause.
The representation of Szeklerland is - de facto - a concrete step in achieving territorial autonomy on ethnic criteria of the area, even though, at the last census, the number of ethnic Hungarians was below 1000 people.
At the same time, we consider that by tolerating such an approach at the level of European institutions, constitutional principles such as sovereignty, unity and indivisibility of the Romanian State are annulled.
Under these conditions, FACIAS will take legal action against the initiators of this "representation of Szeklerland": the UDMR MEPs Iuliu Winkler, Sogor Csaba and the vice-president of the European Parliament Tokes Laszlo, for committing the crimes of "actions against the constitutional order", provided for and punished by art. 166 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code, and "conspiracy", provided for and punished by art.167. Penal Code, because of the risk of creating a precedent of unconstitutional deviations regarding the founding principles of the Romanian state.
In this regard, FACIAS requests the National Anti-Corruption Directorate to investigate the above-mentioned issues and to submit to the European Parliament a request for lifting the immunity of the MEPs involved.
