At the end of last year, The Foundation for the Defense of the Citizen Against State Abuses (FACIAS) asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to publish a top 10 list of the largest damages that the Romanian state was obliged by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) to pay.
FACIAS also asked the Ministry to say in which cases this money was lost and which judges dealt with them.
The ECHR is a court of justice that examines and judges how human rights have been respected in court cases in European countries. The ECHR does not judge the merits of the case because it cannot replace the judges, but it does rule on how the rights of the parties involved have been respected.
