As part of a recently launched project, and The Foundation for the Defence of Citizens against State Abuses (FACIAS) attentively monitors Romania's 2030 National Strategy for Sustainable Development.

FACIAS will ensure, through all means at its disposal and on an ongoing basis, that the objectives set will be achieved in a transparent and fair manner, but also that all relevant information will reach the general public.

In this regard, FACIAS requested a series of explanations from the Department for Sustainable Development (DDD), which is in charge of carrying out SNDDR's objectives.

The DDD has developed an online platform where the stages of implementation and progress of the 17 objectives can be followed. This data is accessible to anyone, providing details and statistics relevant to the proposed objectives, at http://agregator.romania-durabila.gov.ro/indicatori.html

According to DDD, in 2018 a new profession was officially introduced, that of sustainable development expert, and the target is that by 2026 Romania will form a corps of such experts numbering at least 2,000 people. The response received by FACIAS states that the first training programme is currently underway, at the end of which 150 civil servants from the central public administration could become sustainable development experts.

At the same time, in order to correctly assess the need for such experts, Romania has requested technical support from the World Bank to carry out an extensive study, a project included in the NRRP, to determine the exact need for training of sustainable development experts, both at central and local government level.

FACIAS, according to its statutory purpose, but also through its constant activity over the past 14 years, defends the rights of citizens and seeks to ensure transparency in the functioning of state institutions as a principle of democracy and the rule of law.
