The Foundation for the Defense of the Citizen Against State Abuses (FACIAS) is launching the project "Transparency and Accountability - Monitoring the NRRP", which will monitor the implementation of investments and reforms set out in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP). It will track how money from the NRRP is spent (contracts concluded, companies obtaining funds, projects financed, expenditure, etc.).
According to the final form of the NRRP, which has been approved by the European Commission, the maximum amount Romania could benefit from is €29.18 billion. The successful implementation of the investments and reforms thus budgeted will be a real test of efficiency and accountability on the part of the institutions on which the achievement of the 507 objectives required to attract the €29.18 billion depends.
Within the framework of the project launched, FACIAS will seek essential investments that benefit Romanian citizens, such as the construction of new nurseries, healthcare infrastructure, reform of the public pension system.
Health, a vital area for Romania, is also a key objective, with the modernisation and equipping of health facilities a necessity, as confirmed by the events of last year, when 14 fires broke out in the country's hospitals.
FACIAS will produce regular reports indicating the least efficient institutions responsible for the implementation of the NRRP and where measures are needed to improve performance. The findings will be communicated to the governmental level, but also to the European institutions to stop abuses, where identified.
FACIAS, according to its statutory purpose, but also through its constant activity over the past 14 years, defends the rights of citizens and seeks to ensure transparency in the functioning of state institutions as a principle of democracy and the rule of law.
