One year after the tragic death of Andrei Marius Drăgan, The Foundation For The Defense Of The Citizens Against State Abuses (FACIAS) organized on Friday, November 28, a demonstration in front of the County Emergency Hospital of Târgu Jiu and at the Prosecutor's Office of the Tribunal of Târgu Jiu. As part of this action, FACIAS demanded the resignation of the surgeon that refused the life-saving operation for Andrei and who continues to work unrestrained in the health system, as well as the urgent resolution of the criminal case, which has been pending for over a year.
Although November 11 marked one year since the abuses and irresponsible decisions of the doctors that led to Andrei's death in hospital, the criminal file has barely heard the people involved.
FACIAS has called for the resignation of the surgeon at the Târgu Jiu County Emergency Hospital. The situation is outrageous because the doctor who refused to operate on Andrei, citing lack of pediatric skills despite the vital emergency, although he was legally obliged to intervene, remains in the front line of the health system. The administrative penalties imposed on the surgeon by the supervisory authorities were derisory in relation to the irreversible consequences of his decision which resulted in the loss of a human life.
Keeping in office a doctor who has shown that he is not doing everything possible to save the life of a teenager is a real risk for all patients in Gorj County. These citizens, who are unable to access the services of another emergency hospital, are being forced to entrust their health to a medical professional who has already failed in his fundamental mission to respect human life.
FACIAS calls for justice for Andrei and for those responsible to be brought to justice to answer for their actions.
