Dear Minister,
Since the beginning of the Covid-19 vaccination campaign until now, Romania has officially reported over 24,000 individuals who have experienced possible adverse reactions to Covid-19 vaccines. Across Europe, there are hundreds of thousands of such cases.
However, the difference between us and the EU countries concerned about citizens' rights is a very significant one. In countries like France or Germany, state officials objectively address this issue regardless of its scale. In such countries, individuals reporting side effects from this vaccine aren't immediately treated as conspiracy theorists and completely ignored. Thus, the French or Germans who genuinely suffered from a state-recommended treatment are compensated for their afflictions.
Yet, all these aspects could be part of Romanian public policies if we remember, at least when the situation requires it, Article 34 (paragraph 2) of the Romanian Constitution: "The state is obliged to take measures to ensure hygiene and public health." Therefore, even inadvertently, when the state takes measures that lead, in some cases, to the illness of its citizens, the state should be more sensitive to such situations and show willingness to remedy them.
Hence, we urge you to establish an independent commission to investigate and uncover the truth regarding cases of adverse reactions reported by Romanian citizens. This commission should comprise medical experts capable of objectively analyzing all reported cases.
The purpose of this commission would be to analyze reports of adverse reactions, evaluate available scientific data, accurately identify any potential links between vaccines and reported adverse reactions, as well as assess the long-term effects and effectiveness of Covid-19 vaccines. Additionally, it should provide recommendations regarding the continuous monitoring of vaccine safety and propose appropriate measures to minimize vaccination-related risks.
This initiative does not aim to undermine confidence in vaccination but rather to strengthen this confidence through transparency and accountability. It is essential for citizens to be fully informed and to have trust in the safety and effectiveness of Covid-19 vaccines.
We urge you to consider this request as an urgent matter for public health. Alongside the hundreds of Romanians who have written to us, we eagerly await your response as a sign of normalcy in the country where we have all chosen to work and live.
