The Foundation For The Defense Of Citizens Against State Abuses (FACIAS) welcomes the initiative of the Association of Drug Distributors to import 25,000 boxes of Euthyrox, but recalls that the stock situation of the drug is still critical.
The quantity of Euthyrox imported in parallel by the Association of Pharmaceutical Distributors represents a breathing space for almost 40,000 patients, who will thus have their treatment guaranteed for a month. However, the quantity of the drug available in pharmacies will still be far below the needs of patients in Romania. Thus, according to the information provided by SER on 25.09.2020, in Romania there is a stock of 67,910 boxes of Euthyrox 50 mcg, 73,500 boxes of Euthyrox 100 mcg, and 85,702 boxes of Euthyrox 25 mcg. There are currently 500,000 patients in need of Euthyrox treatment in our country, who have been facing a shortage in pharmacies for almost a year.
The Ministry of Health has not yet found a solution to this problem, and promises that the drug will be produced in Romania are far from becoming reality.
