The Foundation for the Defence of Citizens Against State Abuses (FACIAS) is asking prosecutors to establish who is guilty of the death of the 15-year-old student from the Vladnic Gymnasium School, in the Parincea commune, Bacău county. It is unacceptable that in 2026 in Romania, in a case that concerns the life of a minor, for the medical team with a doctor to arrive almost two hours after the initial call.
According to information published in the public space, the tragedy occurred on Wednesday, 20th of May, 2026, during school hours. The student was on break in the school yard when he suddenly felt sick and allegedly collapsed. The first ambulance arrived on the scene approximately an hour after the request, but the crew was not accompanied by a doctor, but only by a medical assistant, while the second ambulance, with a doctor, allegedly arrived almost two hours later. According to statements published in the public space, the intervention took place only after numerous calls and repeated requests made by teachers.
The case was reported to 112 as a major emergency, and the first call was made around 12:30 and indicated that the minor was unconscious. During almost two hours, ten calls to 112 were recorded, eight of which in less than half an hour. The mayor of the commune claimed that the teachers repeatedly called for help and that "everyone ignored us."
Through the registered complaint, FACIAS is requesting the verification of the manner in which the call to 112 was taken and handled, the communication between the Special Telecommunications Service and the medical dispatcher, the crews available at the time of the request, the reason why initially a crew without a doctor was sent and the actual intervention on site.
To eliminate any suspicion of a cover-up, FACIAS requested clarification from the Bacău County Ambulance Service, including the dispatcher, as well as from the educational institution where the tragedy occurred. FACIAS requests communication of the exact chronology of the intervention, the time when the first call was received, the classification of the case, the crews available at that time, the departure and arrival times of the ambulances and the measures taken until the arrival of the medical crews.
FACIAS also requested the Ministry of Health to transmit the conclusions of the Control Body sent for verification in this case. In a case of public interest, in which a child about whom the family says was not known to have any medical issues died in the schoolyard, the authorities have the obligation to provide a complete answer, showing what happened, who made the decisions and whether emergency procedures were followed.
FACIAS will continue to monitor this case until responsibilities are fully clarified and will inform the public opinion on the conclusions and responses submitted by the competent institutions and how the responsible persons will be held accountable.
