The Foundation For The Defense Of Citizens Against State Abuses (FACIAS) has referred the case to the Judicial Inspection and the Supreme Council of Magistracy for serious negligence in the exercise of her profession by Judge Ioana Ancuța Popoviciu of the Mangalia Court, who asked whether one of the two young men killed by Vlad Pascu in the accident on 2 May was in the courtroom. FACIAS considers that what happened in the courtroom where this trial is taking place is outrageous, intolerable and has serious implications for the image of justice in Romania.
Wasn't the tragedy that the two families who lost their children in the accident caused by Vlad Pascu, who was under the influence of drugs, went through in the summer of 2023 enough? The gross incompetence of a judge who didn't even bother to read the case she was trying, led to the tragedy being magnified for the family of one of the victims in the courtroom.
This situation in the courtroom is an eloquent example of the unworthy attitude of a magistrate in relation to the traumatic effect on the parents.
One wonders, in this context, what confidence in the act of justice a father can still have when he understands that the judge, whom he hopes to find justice for his murdered son, has no idea of the essential details of the case he is trying. We are talking about the same judge who, less than a year ago, was sanctioned by the SCM for serious negligence in the exercise of his office, after a disciplinary investigation initiated by the Judicial Inspection.
The press reported that the SCM said no one had referred the case to it. Consequently, FACIAS is referring the matter to the SCM and is calling for the urgent exclusion of Judge Ioana Ancuța Popoviciu from the judiciary for flouting the act of justice and gross indifference to the suffering of a family in search of justice.
