The Foundation For The Defense Of The Citizens Against Citizens Against State Abuses (FACIAS) is calling for urgent investigations and explanations after the sudden death of an 11 year old girl at the Emergency Reception Unit of the Vâlcea County Hospital, which occurred only five days after she had been consulted in the same medical unit and sent home with the diagnosis of A-type flu. In order to clarify the circumstances in which the tragedy occurred, FACIAS has notified the management of the County Hospital, the College of Doctors Vâlcea and the Public Health Department (DSP) Vâlcea, requesting immediate checks and measures.
According to public information, on February 25, 2026, the little girl died at the Emergency Reception Unit of the Vâlcea County Hospital, after being brought by her parents in a very serious condition and went into cardio-respiratory arrest. After about an hour and 40 minutes of resuscitation maneuvers, the doctors declared death. The tragedy occurred just five days after the minor had been seen in the same hospital's Pediatric UPU on Saturday, 21 February, where she was diagnosed with type A flu and allowed to go home without being admitted.
FACIAS has requested the management of the Vâlcea County Emergency Hospital to launch an internal investigation and to communicate its conclusions and the measures taken. The request addressed to the medical unit also concerned clarifications on the clinical assessments and medical decisions taken at the two moments, the therapeutic conduct adopted, including the appropriateness of starting antiviral treatment, as well as the way in which the obligations to inform relatives and the protocols applicable in the context of the flu season were respected.
FACIAS has asked the Vâlcea College of Doctors to launch a disciplinary investigation and to verify the professional conduct of the medical staff involved, regarding compliance with ethical rules, professional standards and possible deviations from applicable medical protocols.
Also, FACIAS notified the Public Health Department of Vâlcea and requested the verification of compliance with the legal and administrative rules applicable to the health unit, including the organization of medical activity, compliance with the triage protocol, the circuit of medical documents, information obligations and any systemic or administrative malfunctions that could have influenced the evolution of this case.
FACIAS will monitor this case and the steps taken by the competent authorities until the circumstances and the culpability of the medical staff involved are clarified.
