OPEN LETTER TO THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH
THE OUTRAGEOUS SITUATION IN REȘIȚA COUNTY HOSPITAL CANNOT CONTINUE!
URGENT ACTION MUST BE TAKEN!
Dear Minister,
We are writing to you about the outrageous situation in Reșița County Hospital, where patients are treated inhumanely.
FACIAS has taken action following the images that have appeared in the public space, images that have a strong emotional impact and have sparked a wave of indignation at national level.
It is obvious from these pictures that disabled and mentally ill patients are left without help, that deceased people are covered with cleaning bags and left in wards with other patients.
It is unacceptable and outrageous that in 2020 such conditions will still exist in Romanian hospitals, especially as we are in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The images look like something out of a horror movie, patients left on the floor, filth, damp, corpses left in the ward with other patients.
FACIAS publicly calls on the Ministry of Health to launch an investigation at Reșița County Hospital in order to provide Romanian citizens with information and concrete measures.
Taking into account the importance of the right to health as guaranteed by the Romanian Constitution and the extremely serious social danger represented by the situation at the Reșița County Hospital, FACIAS calls on the authorities to immediately take the necessary legal measures to remove the danger existing in this hospital, but also to sanction those responsible for creating this undesirable and extremely dangerous situation for all citizens and patients who entered this hospital.
The results of the Ministry of Internal Affairs' investigation must be forwarded to prosecutors, as a criminal investigation could establish legal liability for the disaster at Reșița County Hospital.
We would like to point out that FACIAS's main purpose is to defend citizens' rights against abuses committed by state institutions, in this case the right to health and life of every citizen, as regulated and protected by Article 34 of the Romanian Constitution.
