FACIAS calls for clarification from MAI on how police handled the case of the young woman killed near Ghimpati, after allegations of assault and abuse made by a witness
The Foundation For The Defense Of Citizens Against State Abuses (FACIAS) is calling for immediate public clarification from the Ministry of Interior on how the police acted in the case of the young woman found in a suitcase near Ghimpați.
FACIAS's request comes after footage and witness statements emerged in the public space, claiming that they were assaulted by police officers on the scene and complaining that they used excessive force.
FACIAS believes that the authorities must quickly investigate and explain what happened in this case.
It is unacceptable that those who are in charge of the protection of fundamental rights and freedoms should be the ones to be under suspicion, when the work of the police must be carried out in the interest of the individual and the community.
The Foundation For The Defense Of Citizens Against State Abuses monitors how the authorities respect the rights of citizens, in line with its mission to sanction abuses by state authorities against them.
