The Târgu Jiu Court of Law has set the 30th of June as the deadline for the finding of the truth in the case of Andrei Drăgan, the 16-year-old teenager who lost his life at the Târgu-Jiu County Emergency Hospital after doctors refused to perform surgery for appendicitis. With only 46 days left until the deadline set by the court to complete the criminal investigation, new information has emerged indicating serious blockages in the investigation. FACIAS will notify the Judicial Inspection, accusing possible abuses, negligence and unjustified delays in a case that can no longer be delayed.
According to the answers received by FACIAS from the authorities involved in solving the case, the file was transferred for further investigation to the Gorj County Police Inspectorate, a move that raises new questions about the real pace of the investigation. Even worse, one of the essential pieces of evidence for establishing the truth - the completion of the forensic report - was ordered by the prosecutors only on the 1st of April, 2026, although the objections regarding the forensic report had existed for months. But this approach did not bring any results either. The reason why? The Craiova Institute of Forensic Medicine did not receive all the documents required to complete the expertise. In other words, in a file in which the court has already found that the investigation took too long, the authorities still seem to be stumbling over elementary administrative steps.
For all these reasons, FACIAS will notify the Judicial Inspection on possible acts of serious negligence, possible abuses and unjustified delays that risk compromising compliance with the deadline set by the court. The stakes are not only procedural. At the heart of this case is the death of a 16-year-old child and the right of his family to find out what happened and who is responsible.
FACIAS demands justice for Andrei and will continue all legal proceedings until those responsible are held accountable.
