FACIAS participated in a closed-door event organised by Friends of Europe On Monday, the 14th of November 2022, the Foundation for the Defence of Citizens against State Abuse attended the "What the Chief Says" event organised by Friends of Europe.
FACIAS, a member of Friends of Europe since 2022, was represented by Ms. Liliana Filip, Partnerships Officer, thus having the opportunity to participate in this kind of small, informal events (roundtables), which offer members the exclusive opportunity to directly engage in a conversation with a senior decision-maker from a European institution or government and get to the heart of a current European policy issue.
Hosted by Maria Elena Scoppio, Director for Indirect Taxation and Tax Administration at the European Commission's Directorate-General for Taxation and Customs Union (DG TAXUD), the event was entitled A fair green transition and a competitive Union: fair and efficient taxation for a new era.
Among the participants at the event were Mr Mario Monti, former two-term European Commissioner and former Prime Minister of Italy, Ms Elena Scaroni, Policy Director of LightingEurope, Mr Dharmendra Kanani, Director of Operations and Spokesperson of Friends of Europe, Mr Ulrich Adam, Director General of SpiritsEurope.
These events are in tune with the interests of Friends of Europe members and are strategically linked to emerging trends in the European Union sphere. Such meetings and discussions allow to focus on opportunities and identify possible challenges on the agenda of the European Commission and provide an opportunity to deepen and discuss the essence of policies that will affect Europe in the coming years.
The European Green Pact, which aims to transform the European Union into a modern, resource-efficient and competitive economy, has recently been complemented by the REPowerEU strategy to address the challenges of the Russia-Ukraine war and ensure energy independence from Russia.
In this context it has been analysed and discussed how fiscal policies, together with regulatory measures, will shape the EU's green transition, while ensuring that the transition is socially just and that the EU remains competitive.
