The Foundation For The Defense Of Citizens Against State Abuses (FACIAS) has launched a petition calling for the resignation of Monica Anisie, Minister of Education.
The petition comes in response to the situation in which Romanian education finds itself, due to the lack of a concrete project for the 2020-2021 school year, the lack of transparency and communication, as well as the numerous complaints received in this regard by FACIAS.
At the same time, the rules concerning health and protection measures in educational establishments, drawn up by the Romanian Government, are unclear, incomplete and thus violate the fundamental rights enshrined in the Constitution, namely the right to health protection and the right to education.
FACIAS stresses that in order to ensure a dignified future for Romania's young people and children, education must be of the highest standard and nothing that Minister Monica Anisie has done has proved that she can responsibly and professionally manage the situation in Romanian education.
Another argument is the lack of accountability on behalf of the minister and the institution she leads, which has been placed on the shoulders of parents, pupils and teachers. The epidemiological situation is one that cannot be treated lightly, and the lack of effective protective measures will only lead to worsening problems.
We would like to mention that through its activity, as well as through its membership of CIVICUS (World Alliance for Citizen Participation), as an active member of FRA (European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights) and as a member of the Economic and Social Council, FACIAS monitors the respect of citizens' rights in their relationship with the Romanian State.
