The Foundation for the Defense of the Citizens Against State Abuses (FACIAS) has asked for clarification from the Constanța Police Headquarters and the Public Prosecutor's Office of the Constanța Court of Appeal, in the case of the traffic accident involving former minister Monica Macovei. FACIAS has formally addressed a series of questions to each institution.

The public prosecutor's office was asked to answer whether:

  1.  Have you been informed by the police about the traffic accident caused by Mrs Monica Macovei on the DN 39, between Mangalia - 2 Mai, on 08.10.2022? 
  2. Has the prosecutor requested a medicolegal examination of the victim and the estimated number of medical treatments?
  3. Has the victim lodged a prior complaint to date? Has the prosecution been initiated criminal proceedings in rem against Monica Macovei? 
  4. Has Mrs Monica Macovei been heard to date?

            The following questions have been put to the Constanța IPJ:

  1. Following the investigations at the scene of the traffic accident caused by Mrs. Monica Macovei on the DN 39, between Mangalia - 2 Mai, on 08.10.2022, was the road event the consequence of the commission of another offence such as driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or other substances, driving a vehicle without a driving licence or during the period when the driving licence was suspended, withdrawn or cancelled, etc.? 
  2. 2Did the investigating body refer the matter to the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Appeal in relation to the act committed on 08.10.2022 by Ms Monica Macovei? 
  3. Did the investigating body ask the coroner for the estimated number of medical care required by the accident victim? 
  4. What is the victim's condition? Does her state of health allow her to make statements and refer the matter to the prosecution?
  5. Has the statement of the perpetrator Monica Macovei been recorded in the statement made on the spot or did she exercise her right to remain silent?

            Earlier, FACIAS called on the Police and the Public Prosecutor's Office to properly investigate the accident caused by former Justice Minister Monica Macovei and not to be influenced by her past positions and relationships in state institutions.
