The Ministry of Education wasted almost 17 million lei on textbooks that never reached the pupils. FACIAS calls for the resignation of Minister Monica Anisie.
The Foundation For The Defense Of Citizens Against State Abuses (FACIAS) once again draws attention to the irresponsible way in which the biggest crisis in Romanian education in post-december history is being managed. According to press reports, the Ministry of Education has wasted almost 17 million lei on reprinting old textbooks, but in many cases they have not reached students.
The management of the Ministry of Education did not establish a schedule and conditions for handing out the new textbooks, and the territorial authorities were waiting for instructions from the centre, which led to cases where the textbooks were not distributed to pupils and even to situations where they were "forgotten" in the book depositories of school inspectorates. This is perhaps the latest failure of the management of the Ministry of Education and of Minister Monica Anisie in a long line. FACIAS has presented in recent weeks, in a "Decalogue of Education Disasters", the most important reasons why Minister Anisie should resign for her incompetence and carelessness in the face of the wave of problems that has hit the education system.
For her inability to manage the crisis in Romanian education, Monica Anisie must resign immediately as Minister of Education!
