The Foundation For The Defense Of Citizens Against State Abuses (FACIAS) has asked the Minister of Health, Alexandru Rafila, to urgently send the inspection body to the "Obregia" Hospital, where a patient was filmed with worms in his wounds and a doctor reported numerous irregularities.

The footage, presented by "Libertatea", is from 2020, but now a doctor accuses that nothing has been done for three years and the shortages in the hospital are very high, due to the "indifference of the management".

FACIAS is now asking Minister Rafila to send the inspection body to see if the irregularities reported by the anonymous doctor are true.

Below is the text of the REQUEST:

To Mr Alexandru Rafila, Minister of Health

Dear Minister,

No doubt by now your attention has been drawn to the case of the patient admitted to the "Prof. Dr. Alexandru Obregia" Psychiatric Hospital, neglected by the medical staff until his wounds developed worms.

The images that appeared in the public space, broadcast by "Libertatea", beyond the shock factor and the outrage they arouse, show a reality that could not be uglier: the patients do not receive treatment and empathy precisely in the place where they should be omnipresent.

The Foundation For The Defense Of Citizens Against State Abuses (FACIAS) has noted with sadness and disappointment not only the particularly serious case that the press has reported, but also the completely inappropriate reaction of the hospital management.

There's a saying among the people, still frequently applicable today: 'it's the dead who are to blame'. This is the attitude that the management of the Obregia Hospital has been displaying with reckless abandon, but fortunately, this time the blame cannot be so easily laid to rest. Moreover, this lack of assumption and the attempt to avoid any kind of responsibility leads us to turn to you, in the hope that the culprits will be identified and punished. Specifically, FACIAS considers that the mandate of the current hospital management must end and, in the absence of a backbone and a resignation on the part of the manager, we ask you to dismiss him.

Minister,

FACIAS also asks you to send your subordinate Control Corps to the "Obregia" Hospital in order to make thorough checks and see if all the irregularities reported are confirmed.

The existence of such a case, whose evolution FACIAS will follow closely, is not allowed in any hospital, let alone in the largest clinical psychiatric hospital in the country.

Sincere thanks,

The journalistic investigation on the above case can be read in Liberatea newspaper.
