The Foundation for the Defense of Citizens Against State Abuses (FACIAS) praises the approach indicated by ANAF President Lucian Heiuș regarding the escalation of fiscal verifications of persons in the event of suspicions of non-compliance with the income tax return.

The intensification of these actions, which have taken place so far, is a legitimate action of ANAF, the goal being assuring not only the correct recovery of amounts owed to the state budget, but also a more realistic image of budgetary reality. We feel that this procedure, along with the system's digitization and computerization, is a crucial step towards effective public policy, ensuring a high level of voluntary compliance by taxpayers with regard to their duties. Simultaneously, the aforementioned procedures make a significant contribution to the protection of the state's budgetary interests and honest taxpayers.

At the same time, FACIAS emphasizes the importance of ANAF paying more attention to taxation acts, noting that a substantial number of taxation acts have been repealed during the administrative appeals and judicial phases. This phenomena has an impact on the state budget, which is burdened by the duty to restore money, not only the sums of taxpayers, but also the interest that flows in their favor over the lengthy period of time that lawsuits are being judged.

FACIAS further reminds taxpayers that the tax amnesty is still in effect for debts due by March 31, 2020, requiring the payment of primary obligations and the cancellation of relevant accessories. Both taxpayers who will declare and pay additional income tax until June 30, 2022 (in the case where they have already sub-declared) and those who will initiate a verification of the situation can profit from the tax amnesty until June 30, 2022, regardless of the time of completion.
