The Foundation For The Defense Of Citizens Against State Abuses (FACIAS) is asking the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oana-Silvia Țoiu, to urgently clarify the situation of the two Romanian citizens injured in the road accident in Tunisia. At the same time, FACIAS is calling for transparency and an explanation of the reasons behind the Romanian Embassy's refusal to provide consular support to the victims.

According to information that has appeared in the public domain, on September 1, 2025, two Romanians were hit on a pedestrian crossing by a driver who fled the scene of the accident, and the Tunisian authorities forced them to pay the full cost of their hospital treatment. Worse still, according to them, the Romanian Embassy in Tunisia refused to provide them with the consular assistance to which they were entitled.

In this context, FACIAS addressed the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oana Țoiu, asking her to clarify the measures that had been taken to support the Romanian citizens who were victims of the accident in Tunisia and what the official position of the institution was regarding the Embassy's refusal to provide consular assistance.

Tunisia is a popular holiday destination for many Romanian tourists, and FACIAS believes that the lack of response from the Romanian authorities in such a serious case raises serious questions about the state's ability to protect its citizens abroad.
