The Foundation For The Defense Of Citizens Against State Abuses (FACIAS) has carried out an analysis showing that out of all taxpayers in debt, more than 5,400 companies have debts of more than 1 million lei each. The cumulative value of these debts exceeds 59 billion lei, equivalent to about €11.6 billion.

FACIAS has asked the Ministry of Finance for clarification of these claims and has also informed the Prime Minister and the President of Romania of the amounts that the state has to recover.

At the time of taking office, the Government set increasing budget revenues and strengthening fiscal discipline as priority objectives. Recovering the debts accumulated by the state's large debtors could be a solution to reduce the budget deficit without shifting the financial burden onto citizens of good faith.

FACIAS will return to the public space after receiving clarifications from the authorities to inform citizens about the situation of these claims and the measures planned to recover them.
