The management of the state-owned company Electrocentrale Grup S.A., which is subordinate to the Ministry of Energy, continues to receive huge salaries from public funds, despite losses of over 7.5 million lei recorded in the last three years. According to data obtained by The Foundation For The Defense Of Citizens Against State Abuses (FACIAS) as part of its ‘Stop the waste tap’ campaign, the company's general manager receives over 7,000 euros gross per month. At the same time, the members of the Board of Directors received over 380,000 euros from public funds in 2024 alone.

Electrocentrale Grup S.A. is a new example of institutionalised waste, tolerated for years out of indifference or complicity. Although the company has only 25 employees, its management is paid a fortune from public funds, despite the fact that its financial results are increasingly disastrous.

For example, in 2022, when the company recorded losses of over 1.8 million lei, the general manager received, in addition to his monthly salary, a bonus of 80,000 euros. In 2023, losses rose to over 2.2 million lei, and in 2024 they exceeded the threshold of 3.4 million lei.

The serious financial situation, which continued into 2024, did not lead to any reduction in the remuneration of those appointed to manage the company. On the contrary, in 2024, the total income received by the executive management and members of the Board of Directors exceeded 380,000 euros. The highest gross salary in the company is 35,274 lei per month.

FACIAS calls on the Ministry of Energy, as sole shareholder, to immediately stop wasting public money and to launch an analysis of how public resources are being spent within Electrocentrale Grup S.A.
