The Foundation For The Defense Of Citizens Against State Abuses (FACIAS) is participating today in Brussels in the conference "Ensuring the Rule of Law in EU Member States - Challenges and Solutions", where it will present a report on the implementation of citizens' rights in Romania.

The conference is organised at the European Parliament by MEP Maria Grapini at the initiative of FACIAS.

Speakers at the conference will include Fernando Lopez Aguilar, Chairman of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE), as well as the Director of DG Just, the European Commission's Justice Department.

The Report on Citizens' Rights in Romania, produced by FACIAS, together with a series of opinion polls, will provide an overview of the respect for citizens' rights in Romania and society's perception of them.

FACIAS representatives, who will be face to face with representatives of the European institutions today, will provide, in addition to an overview of the current situation, several recommendations for action to inform and educate all European citizens about their rights.

Today's debates will include discussions on the mechanisms currently provided for the implementation of citizens' rights, but also how these can be expanded and improved. FACIAS will propose the creation of a mechanism for direct consultation and debate between civil society and European officials on issues related to the rule of law and respect for citizens' rights.

FACIAS is a non-governmental organisation dedicated to protecting citizens' rights and freedoms. The main purpose of the foundation is to promote respect for democratic principles, the rule of law and human rights.
