The Foundation For The Defense Of Citizens Against State Abuses (FACIAS) oversees international developments in human rights and is actively engaged in promoting the observance of these rights at the national level.
The Venice Commission recently engaged in an informal exchange of views with representatives of civil society organisations, convened by the Council of Europe at the initiative of the Chair of the Rapporteur Group of the Committee of Ministers' Committee on Legal Cooperation.
The objective of the exchange was to establish a connection between the Venice Commission and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) that utilise and provide visibility to the Rule of Law Checklist, with a view to its implementation in accordance with the Reykjavík Declaration. Furthermore, the objective was to facilitate the provision of feedback by NGOs on the utilisation and impact of the Rule of Law Checklist, as well as suggestions for its potential enhancement. The event commenced with introductory remarks from Kaarlo Tuori, the Honorary President of the Venice Commission, and representatives of four NGOs: the European Implementation Network, the International Commission of Jurists, Democracy Reporting International and Transparency International.
Facias is engaged in a range of domestic activities that involve addressing instances of democratic principles and human rights being violated. It is a leading organisation in the field of defending citizens against the misuse of public institutions, having achieved notable success in legal actions against the state in Romania.
