The 'Turn off the waste tap!' campaign, initiated by FACIAS, has brought to light how a significant portion of the state budget is being misused by state-owned companies, many of which are constantly losing money and are poorly managed.

In this context, the Foundation For The Defense Of Citizens Against State Abuses (FACIAS) will organize, at the Romanian Parliament, on September 11, 2025, the debate "Reform of State-Owned Companies: From Waste to Performance," hosted by the Legal, Disciplinary, and Immunities Committee of the Chamber of Deputies.

While citizens pay for the waste of public money and bear tax increases to cover the budget deficit, hundreds of state-owned companies continue to accumulate losses and keep people with exorbitant salaries who do not perform well in management positions.

During the debate, FACIAS will publicly present how public money is wasted by state-owned companies through poor management and the appointment of individuals without adequate skills to management positions, who have benefited from unjustified salaries, bonuses, and allowances.

The debate "Reform of State-Owned Companies: From Waste to Performance" will be attended by representatives of the government, supervisory institutions, trade unions, corporate governance specialists, and civic organizations will participate in the debate "Reform of State-Owned Companies: From Waste to Performance" to identify legislative measures and oversight mechanisms that could guarantee the efficiency and responsible spending of public money in state-owned companies.

The questions that need to be answered are fundamental: what legislative changes can bring real performance? What is the role of the state—passive shareholder or defender of the public interest? How can an objective and continuous evaluation of management be ensured?

The purpose of the debate is to identify concrete solutions for reforming state-owned companies and establishing relevant performance indicators to transform these companies into real pillars of the national economy that generate profit, rather than just swallowing public money.
