The Foundation For The Defense Of Citizens Against State Abuses (FACIAS) submitted an official request to the management of the National Company Bucharest Airports (CNAB), seeking clarification regarding the apparent lack of basic hygiene, safety and comfort standards at the Henri Coandă International Airport in Bucharest. As Romania's primary gateway, the airport is expected to adhere to minimum European standards of comfort. However, observations indicate that this is not the case.
In a letter to Director General Gabriel Bulgaru, FACIAS presented the findings of an on-site inspection, which revealed a number of significant deficiencies. These included the absence of air conditioning and the poor cleanliness of the bathrooms. It also appeared that the airport had not undergone significant renovations for a considerable period of time, which had a detrimental impact on travellers.
FACIAS emphasises that given the status of Henri Coandă Airport as the principal gateway to the country, the provision of modern, hygienic facilities is a matter of paramount importance. Given that the current state of the airport may discourage tourists and create a negative image of Romania, the foundation is of the opinion that these issues must be addressed with the utmost urgency.
The FACIAS request encompasses a series of inquiries pertaining to the current year's investment budget and the amounts allocated to enhance passenger comfort. Furthermore, FACIAS has sought access to the airport's most recent audit report, with the objective of elucidating the reasons behind the previously unreported significant deficiencies.
FACIAS aims to ensure that citizens' rights are respected and that public infrastructure in Romania meets the minimum necessary European standards.
FACIAS urges the competent authorities to address these problems as a matter of priority and to urgently allocate the necessary resources to modernize Henri Coandă International Airport.
