One month after the murder of Anda Gyurca, a young woman from Mureș County, the killer Emil Gânj – who had already been convicted of another crime – is still free! This situation represents a major failure of the Romanian police and a disgrace for the Romanian state.

FACIAS calls on the Minister of Internal Affairs, Cătălin Predoiu, to immediately dismiss the police chiefs responsible for this case. It is unacceptable that, in the age of technology and digital surveillance, a dangerous criminal, who has been identified and convicted, can disappear without a trace, and the authorities fail to achieve any results for a month.

"Those who had this case in their hands and failed must publicly take responsibility and resign from their positions. Citizens have the right to be protected, not abandoned in the face of such dangers," FACIAS writes.

We call for an urgent and transparent assessment of how this investigation was handled and for firm measures to ensure that such malfunctions do not endanger human lives again.

FACIAS requests an assessment of how this case was handled and that appropriate administrative measures be taken. "The honorable resignation of individuals within the operational structures responsible for these failures is a natural and necessary gesture in light of public opinion."
