About the foundation<\/span><\/span>

Who we are<\/span><\/h1>

Through its activity, the Foundation for the Defence of Citizens against State Abuse\n(FACIAS)<\/b> seeks to ensure transparency in the functioning of state institutions, as a principle\nof democracy and of the rule of law and defends the rights of Romanian citizens.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Since its inception in 2008 up to the present time, we have been active in the prevention and combating abuse of power, being involved on behalf of the communities of citizens who are being infringed upon their rights by the state authorities. We monitor the activity of state institutions and inform the public thereon, in order to increase citizens\u2019 awareness on their rights and the possibility they have to take part in the activities of public institutions, either directly or indirectly, through non-governmental organisations. We want to remedy the abuses against \u200b\u200bhuman rights in the health system, in the penitentiary system and in any other areas.<\/p>

We thought it would be good to introduce you to the ideological basis of our activity:

\n\"American Declaration of Independence\" (1776) and \"Declaration of the Rights of Man and of\nthe Citizen\" (France, 1789).<\/i><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Despite its extensions and developments, the idea of inalienable human rights has changed the meaning of the man-society and man-state relations. If in the pre-modern age man was seen as an ingredient of the community and as a subject of the state, as a subordinate, the spread of the idea of universal rights of the individual reverses this relationship: the human being does not exist in order to serve society and submit to the state, but instead society exists and functions so as to enable people to defend their rights and freedoms from any aggression or abuse; the citizen does not exist in order to subordinate him\/herself to the state and to serve it, but the state is called to serve the individual, to defend his\/her rights and to create optimal conditions for his\/her development, personal affirmation and achievement. Therefore the primordial role belongs to the human beings, with their aspirations to achieve and manifest their abilities and creativity, not to society or the state. The idea, as we have already mentioned, is common to political liberalism and classical European humanism, and it lies at the heart of humanist doctrine. We believe that it remains of the utmost relevance and importance, because part of the permanent tendency of the power to abuse is also its tendency to use the citizen as a pawn, as a simple tool for influential groups and not as a goal for policy: power it is always inclined to use people for its own purposes of domination and control, instead of fulfilling its fundamental duty: to be in the service of the assertion of the creative powers of the individual. The fight against this trend is therefore constantly needed, and the humanist movement makes its central priority out of it.<\/p>

FACIAS mission \/ activity ensures the protection of fundamental rights and freedoms in accordance with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UN)<\/p>
